About Grand Openings

Our Story

Tracy Edgemon founded Grand Openings in 1984. He'd spent the previous five years running Lewis Manufacturing, a cabinet shop, and saw an opportunity in the Texas luxury window and door market that no one was addressing. He approached Kolbe & Kolbe, a Wisconsin-based manufacturer with a reputation for craft and customization, and proposed opening the Texas territory for them.

That relationship became the foundation of the company. Tracy and his wife have owned and operated Grand Openings since day one—over forty years of continuous, independent ownership in a business where dealers regularly turn over or get absorbed by national distributors.

Four Decades of Curation

The product portfolio at Grand Openings isn't a catalog of every available brand. It's the result of forty years of testing, evaluating, and partnering with manufacturers who meet a specific standard. Each brand in the lineup does something that no other brand in the portfolio does—whether that's a material specialty, a performance characteristic, or a design capability.

Brands have been added and removed over the decades as products, markets, and building practices have evolved. What stays constant is the filter: quality of product, reliability of supply, and willingness to stand behind the work.

Where We Work

Grand Openings has operated in markets across the country—Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Louisiana, the New York City area, and Chicago, among others. The current footprint of seven showrooms across Texas and Arizona is not a limitation but a deliberate focus. These are the markets the company knows best, where it has the deepest relationships with architects, builders, and homeowners, and where it can deliver the level of service the work demands.

Each showroom carries the full portfolio and is staffed by people who know the local market—the climate considerations, the building codes, the architectural vernacular, and the trade professionals who shape the built environment in that region.
